Bowder stone Lake District

Bowder Stone

Take a lovely short walk to the Bowder Stone  one of the most famous rocks in the Lake District. It weighs 2000 tonnes, is 30 feet high, 30 feet across and 90 feet in circumference and it balances all by itself. Do you dare climb to the top ? 

In the Borrowdale valley a short drive from Keswick there is a large National trust car park at CA12 5XA.

 

Orrest Head Lake District

Orrest Head in Windermere 

Embark on a journey of natural beauty and accessibility with the Orrest Head Summit Route in Windermere. This wheelchair-friendly path offers stunning views of the Lake District, inviting all to experience its captivating landscapes.

Aira Force Lake District

Aira Force

This is a must visit place for anyone who loves chasing waterfalls. There is a large National Trust carpark CA11 0JS. How many waterfalls can you spot? This can be turned in to a circular walk which is easy to navigate by the well marked Paths.

Rydal Hall Lake District

Rydal Hall and Grot

Discover the famous Rydal hall & Grot, Ambleside, LA22 9LX Parking is limited but can be made into an adventure by walking from Ambleside town centre.

Rydal hall has large grounds filled with art work waiting to be discovered including the famous Grot and waterfall, There is a lovely little tea room on site and toilets. The grounds are free to explore but donations are welcome.

Stock Ghyll Force Ambleside Lake District

Stock Ghyll Force

Stock Ghyll Force is only a short walk from Ambleside town centre. A beautiful 70 Foot waterfall which can be viewed safely by designated viewpoints. This is a lovely circular walk up to the waterfall over the bridge and back down the opposite side.

Todd Crag walk from Ambleside

This charming little hike up Todd Crag is one of our absolute favourites, and it’s right on the doorstep of Ambleside’s town centre. Starting from Rydal Road Car Park (LA22 9AN), the walk takes you on a gentle climb through lovely fellside paths, with a stop at the tranquil Lily Tarn on the way up.

The views from the top are nothing short of spectacular, with Windermere stretching out below in all its glory—perfect for a moment’s pause to soak it all in. It’s a quick outing but wonderfully rewarding, offering a proper taste of the Lake District without straying too far from the heart of Ambleside.
